| BLOG 002: I LOVE MY JOB. |

 | Four newly born tiger cubs at Bronx Zoo, being held by myself and a colleague.
I volunteer several times a month at an animal shelter in District 0 and I believe Grassroots Campaigns is currently hiring for a campaign to help them out. If this doesn't encourage you to at least consider applying, I don't know what will. Admittedly, there probably won't be many opportunities to work with tiger cubs, but there are unfortunately too many animals, both exotic and domestic, that are in need of a helping hand.
If you're searching for other ways of helping out the animals at your local shelter, stop by and adopt one today! |

| VLOG 001: I LOVE AN IMMIGRANT AND I'M STILL AMERICAN. |
[25 Mar 2010|01:44pm] |
The image moves in and out of focus on the cracked, gray cement as a barely audible female voice speaks, her voice distorted by the sounds of traffic and poor microphone quality. After a brief, dizzying movement, the screen is obscured by a pink, yellow, and orange blur. The camera zooms out and focuses on Lilian's badges as Falcon begins speaking from behind the camera.
Oh. Oh, wait a minute. Okay, I've got it now. He laughs. Hello, internet! All right, so I ran into this lovely little lady on my way to work today, and she was handing out these awesome badges. All right, so would you mind telling whoever's watching why you're doing this? Why are you supporting the immigrants?
A bit of nervous laughter as Lillian clears her throat and tries to sound cool and collected Well, practically everyone in America is a product of immigration. If we trace our family trees far back enough, we'll see that almost all of us came from somewhere else. And I think it's just really shitty that immigrants are being treated like they are, and kept alienated from the rest of the population. So, as someone who is not afraid to admit that she wouldn't be here if my mom hadn't moved to America, I just want to remind everyone that it doesn't matter where someone came from. They're still people.
There's a soft rustling and the camera shifts slightly downward as Falcon begins speaking again. Right, so what can people do if they want to help, too?
First off, they can make sure to correct people who are negative towards refugees and immigrants. If you're working somewhere, and you hear discrimination going on in the workplace, speak out about it. If you are someone who is going to hire people, consider helping out a foreigner. So many of them are being kept from decent jobs because of where they come from. And that's totally bullshit. Things really need to change. But they won't unless people are willing to step out of their comfort zone and do what's right, you know?
Right. I definitely couldn't have said that any better. Anyway, I'll let you get back to passing out your badges and remember people.. A blurry pinkness hovers in front of the camera until the words "I love an immigrant and I'm still American ♥" become clear in big, bold letters. you can love an immigrant and still be American.
The camera swoops downward, towards the cement, then up again, showing the upside-down image of cars rushing past for half a second before going black.
